Many years ago I took a screen printing class and made a print of a quote that has hung in my hallway ever since. With a handful of words, William Henry Channing, a 19th century writer and philosopher, captures the honesty and clarity that I hope to capture in my work, and in the rest of my life:

To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly; act frankly; talk gently; await occasion; hurry never… this is my symphony.

For me beauty is found in the simplest of things, and it is this simplicity I aim to capture in my jewellery. I use traditional silver and goldsmithing techniques to create delicate organic forms, adding colour and texture through a combination of patination, hand dyed cold enamels and hand made textiles.

For me, part of the joy of making is the journey - I have no formal training, so each piece demonstrates a road travelled: from an idea, through research, experimentation and learning, to the final piece.

I’m proud of the evolving, organic approach I take to learning my craft and creating each item, and aim for this to show through in my work. Each piece enriches my life as I learn new things and travel the journey to the finished article. I hope that they also enrich the wearer’s life, bringing a reminder that beauty can be simple, and that sometimes the boldest statement comes not witha shout, but a whisper.
